Dane Krich

Dane Krich is a versatile freelance percussionist in the Baltimore and D.C Metropolitan areas. An active orchestral and chamber musician, Dane has played percussion with the Lancaster Symphony Orchestra, Mid-Atlantic Symphony Orchestra, Annapolis Symphony Orchestra, Maryland Symphony Orchestra, Concert Artist of Baltimore, Baltimore Philharmonia Orchestra, Landon Symphony Orchestra, Trinity Symphony Orchestra, and the Central Maryland Chorale. His timpani credits include the Mid-Atlantic Symphony Orchestra, the Pan American Symphony, Central Brass Ensemble, Trinity Symphony Orchestra, the World Bank Chamber Orchestra and the St. John's Chamber Orchestra. A well-practiced drum set artist and hand drummer, Dane is versed in many different styles of music and has played and toured with the likes of Martin Short, Chita Rivera, Rita Moreno, Bay Street Brassworks and many other jazz, Cuban, Brazilian, Gospel and Rock/Pop ensembles. Dane has had the honor to grace the pit at Barack Obama’s 2nd inauguration at the Kennedy Center, as well as the stage at Carnegie Hall in Tim Janis’s production The American Christmas Carol.
A sought-after theater musician, Dane has accompanied countless musicals. He has performed for Everyman Theater, Toby's Dinner Theaters, Imagination Stage, Red Branch Theater, Adventure Theater, Tidewater Players, Memorial Players, American University, Roland Park Country School, St. Paul's School, Friends School, The Gilman School, Young Actors Theater, as well as many other community theaters, universities, and schools. During the summer of 2009, Dane extensively toured and performed with Olney Theater's National Players' production of Ain't Misbehavin', and throughout the summer of 2011, he dedicated himself to Olney Theater's production of Grease.
Dane is currently the director of percussion studies at Morgan State University where he teaches applied percussion lessons, percussion methods, as well as directing the percussion ensemble. He also teaches at Music and Arts in Timonium. Notably Dane has had an article published in the magazine Percussive Notes entitled Teaching Percussion to Students with Special Needs. Dane is a proud member of both the Vic Firth and Remo educational teams.
Dane graduated Magna Cum Laude with his B.M. degree from Towson University, and his M.M. degree from the University of Maryland College Park. His principal percussion/timpani teachers have been Michelle Humphreys, principal percussionist of the Baltimore Opera Company, Dale Rauschenberg, professor emeritus of Towson University, Tony Ames, principal percussionist of the National Symphony Orchestra, and Ben Ramirez, principal timpanist of the Columbus Symphony Orchestra. Other percussion/ timpani instructors include Brian Prechtl, of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, Dennis Kain, principal timpanist of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, Barry Dove, timpanist of the Baltimore Chamber Orchestra, and William Elliott of the U.S. Army Field Band. Dane’s drum set instructors have included Frank Russo, an active freelance jazz artist and former member of the U.S. Naval Academy Band, Steve Fidyk, big band drummer for the Army Blues Band, and Dan Garvin, gold record recording drummer with the band SR-71.
