On Sunday, February 23rd, 3 PM at Woods Memorial Presbyterian Church in Severna Park, MD the awe-inspiring Chesapeake Youth Chamber Orchestra will grace the stage with guest cellists Jacques-Pierre Malan and Geoff Manyin, for what promises to be nothing short of a breathtaking evening.
Performing Haydn's Cello Concerto in C Major, subsequently lost and rediscovered in 1961, Jacques-Pierre Malan certainly brings a level of sophistication and depth to the performance that rivals that of Joesph Weigl of whom the concerto was written for. "From growling low chords to tripping semiquaver scales in the instrument's sweet high register - Haydn redefined orchestral playing with his fantastic Cello Concerto in C Major"
Malan to be joined by CYSO Alumni, Geoff Manyin, of the Texas-based quartet Invoke in Vivaldi's Concerto for Two Cellos promises to awaken a sense in the listener from the very beginning of the energetic Allegro opening. As the concerto progresses there are times when the two cellos communicate with each other by harmonizing the same musical phrase and then, by contrast, respond to each other in canonic imitation. After a lyrical second movement filled with grave beauty, this masterpiece concludes with an Allegro as spectacular as talented as Malan and Manyin are at their craft.
